Alejandro Garnacho has told Manchester United what they will be missing out on after completing a transfer to Chelsea. Garnacho has joined Chelsea in a £40million move from United, where he was pushed out by Ruben Amorim.

The 21-year-old winger fell out with the United boss at the end of last season, having reacted furiously to being left on the bench for the Europa League final. He was then left out of the squad for United’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the season and told he was not in Amorim’s plans for the 2025/26 campaign.

Garnacho was placed in the ‘bomb squad’ along with fellow unwanted players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia. Having been forced to train alone, the Argentina international has now followed Rashford out of the door at Old Trafford and is delighted to be at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca was key to making the deal happen and it seems there is no love lost between Garnacho and his former club. While he has shared lots of Chelsea content on his social media pages since joining on the weekend, there is no goodbye message to United.

And having contributed 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 games last season, Garnacho was keen to rub their noses in it during his first interview with Chelsea. “I have a winning mentality. I have passion and a big personality. It’s a natural fit with a club like Chelsea, which have just won the Club World Cup,” he said.

“Chelsea are at the top now, and it’s important to fight for the club like the fans deserve. I watched the Club World Cup, and to join the world champions is special – it means we’re the best team in the world!

“It’s not common to have played a lot of games at this age, but it has helped me a lot. I’m only 21 and I have a lot of experience from these different types of games, stadiums and moments.”

Garnacho joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and scored 26 goals in 144 appearances after progressing through the academy. He was once considered the future of the club, having been nurtured by his idol Cristiano Ronaldo and performed impressively at such a young age.

But his falling out with Amorim meant there was no way back and he has signed a seven-year contract at Chelsea. The Blues first showed an interest in January and his agents, Carlos Cambeiro and Quique de Lucas, were spotted at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea feel they have secured a bargain given Garnacho’s youth and potential and he will compete with the likes of Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens, Tyrique George and Estevao for a place in Maresca’s starting line-up.
