In less than two calendar years, quarterback Brock Purdy has gone from “Mr. Irrelevant” to one of the starting quarterbacks in the upcoming Super Bowl.
He was the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and ever since taking over the starting spot in Week 13 of the 2022 season, he has become one of the best Cinderella stories in sports history.
Now, he will have the opportunity to earn the Vince Lombardi Trophy against Patrick Mahomes and the defending world champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.
Emmanuel Acho said on FS1’s “Speak” that whether his team wins or loses there, Purdy has likely already earned a $200 million contract extension.

In 21 career regular-season starts over the last two seasons, Purdy has completed 68.7 percent of his pass attempts while throwing for 5,654 yards and 44 touchdowns and posting a 111.4 passer rating.
He was a leading MVP candidate this season until the last few weeks of the schedule, and perhaps at least one MVP award will be in his future.
Some doubted whether Purdy was all that, despite his stellar numbers and performances, but in San Francisco’s two playoff games thus far, he has led them from behind to victory against two quality teams in the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
He has two years remaining on his rookie contract, and regardless of how much he will get paid, the Niners will have some difficult decisions to make, as star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will soon be up for an extension of his own.
Whether they win the Super Bowl or not, it will likely be very difficult for them to keep their championship-caliber core together in the years to come.
