The Dallas Mavericks thought long and hard about it, but they recently decided to part ways with Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
The team opted to waive and stretch Prosper, meaning that he is no longer with the team and is able to look for a new squad in the NBA to play for.
Writing on X, Sam Vecenie said that another franchise should take a chance on Prosper because he could do a lot of good on the court.
“Think O-Max Prosper is definitely worth a two-way flyer for someone. The length and athleticism remain intriguing on defense. Big and physical. Thoughtful kid. Ultimately will all come down to if he can ever shoot it, but I’d take a low-stakes chance on him for sure,” Vecenie posted on X.

It’s not that the Mavericks didn’t like Prosper; it’s just that they don’t have room for him anymore.
They needed to shed contracts in order to bring on Dante Exum, and so they decided to part ways with the young Prosper.
They didn’t want to go above the second apron, and that put Prosper in a very bad spot.
He has been with the team since draft night in 2023.
Since joining the team, he has averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds.
It’s not often that first-round picks are waived before the end of their first contract, but the Mavericks didn’t have space for him and knew that things weren’t going to change.
He has a much better chance to shine playing for a different team, although it’s not clear where he will go.
Vecenie said that Prosper should get a two-way contract, which would allow him to play in the regular season and in the G League.
He’s a young player who could still have a bright and productive career, but it just won’t be with the Mavericks.
