Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi’s wholesome reunion on England duty was hailed by fans. The former Crystal Palace team-mates endured a hectic summer, with Eze moving to Arsenal and Guehi’s Liverpool transfer collapsing on deadline day.

Palace captain Guehi and dynamic forward Eze were cornerstones in Oliver Glasner’s side last year as they lifted the FA Cup and continued to be pivotal during their Community Shield win last month. However, their impressive performances saw other clubs circle.

Despite looking Tottenham-bound, Eze made a £67.5million move to the Gunners in August. He was handed his Arsenal debut in their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool. Guehi, on the other hand, with his contract expiring in 2026, had long been of interest to the likes of Newcastle United and Chelsea, although it seemed as though Anfield would be his landing spot.

The defender underwent a medical on deadline day. However, Palace failed to source a replacement, and with Glasner’s stance firm, the club’s skipper stayed put. The English pair met after Guehi’s Liverpool transfer collapse at St George’s Park when reporting for England duty, and fans‘ hearts were warmed by their embrace and evident rock-solid bond.

In a video uploaded to England’s official YouTube channel, Thomas Tuchel’s squad arrived ahead of their matches against Andorra and Serbia. Staff greeted some new faces in Tottenham’s Djed Spence and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

Some familiar faces were also welcomed back, including captain Harry Kane and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who played under Tuchel for Chelsea but hasn’t made a Three Lions appearance for seven years.

Near the end of the video, new Gunners signing Eze turned up, and when entering the England building, he spotted former colleague Guehi speaking to staff members.

The 27-year-old gave Guehi a warm pat on the back before shaking hands with those he was speaking to. Eze then gave Guehi a firm hug, an indication of the camaraderie they developed at Selhurst Park.

Fans online were quick to express their joy at the pair’s embrace, with one posting: „That’s the spirit of decent players.“ While a second added: „Brothers back together.“

„That hug said many words,“ commented a third, and a fourth praised: „Eze giving Guehi a hug after the nonsense he’s been through.“ A fifth wrote: „Love you Guehi!“

A sixth supporter took a more bleak approach to the hug in light of Guehi’s transfer collapse, as they posted: „Shame man, can see the sympathetic hug from Eze to Guehi about not getting his big move.“

Deadline day was chaotic for Guehi, who now looks likely to either seal a move in January or on a free next summer. England boss Tuchel revealed he gave his side Monday off in light of it being the final day of the transfer window.

„It (deadline day) is one reason why we called the players up on Tuesday, to not have all these mixed emotions,“ said Tuchel. „They come on Tuesday, so they have one day off. We also didn’t want to have that week too long. We wanted to streamline it towards the Saturday game and start on the Tuesday afternoon with training.

„But one part of the decision was also to give them the freedom to sort out maybe their transfer issues and the transfer subjects that come their way. So, yeah, of course we’re interested. We need to know where we have to drive on the weekend.“
