The San Antonio Spurs have made some important moves in the offseason.
They had one of the worst records in the league last year, but they had an evident building block in Victor Wembanyama.
Of course, they know that not many players can turn a franchise around overnight, but they’re clearly on the right path.
That’s why they acquired two veterans in Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes to mentor Wembanyama and help him experience winning basketball in the early stages of his career.
They also drafted a potential star in Stephon Castle, which is why NBA Central took to Twitter to ask the fans whether they could sneak into the playoffs.
Can they make a playoff push? 👀 pic.twitter.com/RLCWaJSU4q

Needless to say, most fans were skeptical about them as a playoff team, although most of them could agree that they should at least be in the Play-In conversation.
Play-in? 100%. Contention? Not as currently constructed.

They could probably make the playoffs if they were in the eastern conference though

If Castle can be a day 1 contributor and Paul can stay healthy they could snag a play in spot

Even if Paul is up in age, he’s still one of the best playmakers and most intelligent players of all time, so if he’s healthy, he will do wonders with Wembanyama’s offensive development.
Wembanyama was the best defensive player in the game in his rookie season and it wasn’t even close, and he’s clearly a special talent.
You can never underestimate the importance of having the right veterans around young players.
