In one of the least surprising developments of the 2023 MLB season, owners have confirmed, through a vote, that Rob Manfred will remain the commissioner of the league until January 2029.

He has been in charge since 2015, when he replaced Bud Selig, so he will complete 14 years at the position barring an unexpected development.

Since the figure of MLB Commissioner defends the rights and ideas of team owners and Manfred has made it clear throughout the years that’s where he usually leans to, it’s evident why he will keep running the show.

The extension of his stay as commissioner comes in the form of a four-year pact.

Fans, of course, have voiced their opinions via Twitter.

Some fans are giving him a positive grade in his tenure so far, which is fair since everybody can have their own opinion.

The Houston Astros probably deserved a more severe punishment, but that hasn’t been Manfred’s biggest mistake.

His handling of the negotiations and safety standards for the 2020 season (the COVID-shortened campaign) earned himself harsh criticism, not to mention the 2021-22 lockout and how he has handled the Oakland Athletics situation.

Still, it’s fair to acknowledge that the three main rule changes he implemented this year (the shift restrictions, the pitch clock, and the bigger bases) have been beneficial to the sport.

Generally speaking, his image among fans is negative, no matter the team.

Still, it doesn’t really matter, because he is very, very popular among owners and they are the ones who vote for his reelection.
