Harvey Elliott has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer, but his latest actions have fans convinced he should remain at Anfield
There is no better way to announce yourself to Liverpool fans than with a stoppage-time winner, something Rio Ngumoha found out for himself on Monday evening. The now 17-year-old stole the headlines with a composed finish in the 10th minute of added time against Newcastle United at St James‘ Park to give the Reds a crucial 3-2 victory.
In the aftermath of Ngumoha’s goal, he was mobbed by his ecstatic team-mates. And eagle-eyed fans have noticed a heart-warming moment in Liverpool FC’s ‚Inside‘ video, a behind-the-scenes look at the game, coming courtesy of Liverpool’s prodigy from yesteryear, Harvey Elliott.
As Ngumoha is engulfed by a sea of red shirts, Elliott, aged 22, can be seen rushing into the group and embracing the young winger, who had just become Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer. He then pulls the youngster out to direct him towards the Liverpool fans, who were watching from on high at St James‘ Park, allowing him to bask in the glory of his big moment.

The heartening act has led fans to echo the same sentiment about Elliott: he must remain at the club. Amidst a summer of change at Anfield, Elliott’s tenure at the Premier League champions could be coming to a close.
His diminishing game time and confirmed status as a substitute under Arne Slot has meant he has attracted significant interest from RB Leipzig in Germany, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Elliott, who became the Premier League’s youngest-ever player at just 16 years and 30 days old while at former club Fulham in 2019, before later becoming Liverpool’s youngest Premier League debutant, captured supporters‘ hearts with his selfless gesture.
Fans appeared united in their belief that having a player with Elliott’s determination to see teammates flourish represents a vital component of any winning side. One supporter wrote: „Notice Harvey after Rio scores [heart emoji] hope he stays man.“
Another, making reference to Federico Chiesa’s dramatic late goal against Bournemouth on the season’s opening weekend, said: „He [Elliott] was the one who made Chiesa soak up the atmosphere too.“
A third fan said: „Love that from Harvey that he pushes Rio to enjoy his moment with the fans but also telling Rio to lock back in after looking at the clock“, whilst a fourth added: „Love the way Elliott pushed Rio so he can get the praise from the travelling Reds.“
Discussing Ngumoha’s immediate pre-season impact, Elliott expressed complete confidence that the teenager was ready to make his breakthrough this campaign.
„He is fearless,“ Elliott said. „We are trying as much as we can to help him out. If he keeps on performing the way he is and working as hard as he is, the kid has got an amazing future. I’m really excited to see where things go. Hopefully, he can be very successful.
„It’s important that the younger lads are around him and look after him, which is what we have been doing. We are not leaving him out and are bringing him into the squad and making him feel really part of it. In the upcoming years, hopefully, he can show the world and especially Liverpool why he is so highly rated.“
