Reports: Parsons might need epidural for Packers debut

Micah Parsons is doing everything he can to be on the field for his new team.

The star pass rusher was acquired by the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys last week, but a lingering back injury has left his availability for Week 1 up in the air.

According to Schefter and Rapoport, Parsons is dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back and might need an epidural to manage the pain during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. He will also continue to participate in physical therapy for the injury.

Parsons did pass a physical as part of the trade and participated in practice with the Packers on Monday.

Parsons, 26, is a two-time All-Pro who has been among the best edge rushers in the NFL since he made his debut in 2021. He had 12 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 23 QB hits in 13 games last season.

The Packers acquired Parsons from the Cowboys for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks after the Cowboys and Parsons were unable to come to terms on a contract extension. The Packers signed Parsons to a four-year, $186-million contract as part of the trade.
