Transfer deadline day is finally upon us and clubs are scrambling to get any last minute deals over the line. Clubs in the Premier League and below have until 7pm on Monday evening to get contracts signed and moves ratified.
And once that window elapses, all business must stop – almost. Sides can still get a few deals completed after the deadline should they submit an official transfer deal sheet.
If that is done, a club can be given an extra couple of hours to get a transfer over the line. But there are a few rules that they must satisfy in order to make sure those deals go through.
So, how does it all work? And how does a club submit a deal sheet? Mirror Football takes a closer look at one of the biggest deadline day buzz phrases.
When is the transfer deadline?
The 2025 summer transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday, September 1. The window has looked slightly different this summer, with two separate windows due to the Club World Cup.
The deadline has also been moved slightly earlier this year and is now scheduled at 7pm, whereas before it was usually 11pm.

What is a deal sheet?
A transfer deal sheet is a document that allows teams to officially confirm that a transfer has been reached before the transfer deadline passes. Once it has been filled out, that club is then given a further two hours after the deadline to seal a transfer.
They were introduced into the Premier League in 2008 due to a number of transfers collapsing due to paperwork issues.

What are the rules?
As stated, clubs are given an extra two hours to ensure any additional paperwork is completed and ratified. That would in theory give any Premier League sides until 9pm on Monday to complete their deals. Should they fail to get a transfer over the line by then, it would not go through.
But there is one other major rule that clubs need to abide by if they’re to use a transfer deal sheet to their advantage. A deal between clubs already needs to be agreed before time.
A transfer fee and any potential add-ons need to be among the information submitted on the deal sheet, meaning that it is just the official paperwork that needs to be completed.
