Yankees Analyst Highlights Problematic Position On The Team

The 55-52 New York Yankees are not only playing mediocre baseball, but they are now 11 games behind the AL East leaders.

The last Wild Card spot is still within reach, but they keep finding ways to lose and get further and further away from the postseason spots.

They have lost three straight and can’t dominate teams that aren’t the Kansas City Royals or the Oakland Athletics.

It’s hard to go places with such an inconsistent offense.

A big part of the problem is that left field has been a glaring hole even before the season started.

General manager Brian Cashman did nothing to improve the outlook there and chose to open the campaign with Aaron Hicks as the starter.

Yankees insider Max Goodman illustrated some of the left field woes on the team.

“The #Yankees have a 100-100 record in their last 200 games. In that span (since June 23rd of last season), here’s how New York’s left fielders have performed on offense: .217 BA (28th), .297 OBP (24th), .364 SLG (27th), .661 OPS (29th), 86 wRC+ (27th),” he tweeted.

First of all, a 100-100 record over a 200-game span for a team like the Yankees is highly disappointing.

Fans are, understandably, very upset.

Second, it’s hard to expect the team to do much when it has played with basically six men in the lineup.

Catcher, left field, and third base have all been a problem all year.

Yankees left fielders, a group that has included Willie Calhoun, Hicks, Jake Bauers, Billy McKinney, and Oswaldo Cabrera, are 29th in OPS this year, among 30 teams.

The Yankees slept through the deadline, so fans shouldn’t expect the situation to change at this point.

That might be costly.
